About The Artists
2 Wild Crows showcases the art and photography of Maria and Doug Downes. Their original works are inspired by the everchanging New England landscapes, as well as by their travels in Jamaica and throughout Europe. Maria offers original artwork, limited edition prints, as well as commissioned paintings and handpainted floorcloths and canvas rugs. Doug rounds out his creative photography with a full portrait studio and years of wedding photography experience.
Maria Downes's paintings have been well received and have been accepted by several juried exhibitions including the Fitchburg Art Museum, the Concord Art Association, and the Cape Cod Art Association. She has also participated in many group shows, plus numerous, exciting One Woman Shows, most recently at the Tower Hill Botanical Gardens. This show, A New Twist on Old Fashioned Botanicals included many new works. In 1990, Maria's painting "Lilac Frenzy" was selected from among 300 entries for the Arnold Arboretum limited edition poster for that year and the painting "Towards Truro" was featured in the August 1990 issue of American Artist for its statement on conservation. Additionally, many of her original works are housed in Corporate Collections and have been exhibited throughout the U.S. and abroad.
Doug Downe's interest in photography began over 30 years ago. He enjoys the challenge of capturing his subjects with a unique feel or look and is always looking for the effect of natural light and the impact of composition. "I love the challenge of creating the story of a wedding day, of capturing personalities in my portraits, and of expressing moods through my creative work."We create and sell our own authentic art. Through a unique line of cards and prints we capture pieces of happiness for others because life is art.
